Ahmed Khalil, Sales Associate in Cairo, Egypt,

As I was browsing Facebook one night, I came across a story about a graduate of Education For Employment Egypt (EFE-Egypt) that got me very curious. At that point, I was searching for the right opportunity and I was open to anything.

Uncertain about what career path I wanted to pursue, I had sent my CV to many employers in Cairo. But after many attempts, I only landed a couple of interviews. I never heard back from any. So I applied for the EFE-Egypt Job Placement Training Program thinking I have nothing to lose and a lot to learn.

Today I am very thankful to have made that decision and to have joined the program. The program impacted me both on a personal and professional level. It changed my perspective on work, instilled a desire for a career in me and made me believe in teamwork. My trainer Khaled became a role model to me – he has a certain charisma I aspire to, as well as great communication skills and an incredible willingness to share knowledge. Because of him, now I have a much clearer idea of what I want my life to be and who I want to become.

Professionally, the difference was very clear: after my EFE-Egypt training, I returned to an employer with whom I had previously interviewed and they noticed the difference in my behavior during the interview. They offered me a higher position than the one I had originally wanted and with even better pay.

Today, I am a salesperson at Alef Bookstores, one of the leading bookstores in the country. My basic salary is way above minimum wage which makes me happy because I am saving to take English courses at the British Council, and I will start in September. I aim to improve my English so as to be comfortable using it professionally. One day, I want to become a business development consultant, and English is key. EFE-Egypt helped me define this dream and take my first steps towards it. Maybe one day I will be able to come back to EFE-Egypt and they will hire me as a consultant for one of their projects
