About Yemen EFE (YEFE)

In 2008, EFE has partnered with Yemeni business and civil society leaders to create the Yemen Education For Employment (YEFE), providing motivated yet unemployed Yemeni youth with the training and opportunities needed to secure employment. As a bridge between the education system and the private sector, YEFE helps young women and men to acquire practical skills that meet employer needs.

YEFE first established offices in Sana'a and Taiz, and today reaches youth from the governorates of Aden, Abyan, Al-Dhalea, Lahj, Marib, Al-Jawf, Amran and Shabwah.

Workplace Success Training and Job Placement Program

EFE's Workplace Success Program equips college-educated youth with the professional and communications skills they need to obtain and keep a first job. Students are guided in work ethics as well as given detailed lessons on daily challenges, such as how to prepare a presentation. Published by McGraw-Hill and developed by U.S. career education experts in partnership with Yemeni business leaders, YEFE began offering the program in July 2008. Most of the students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and many travel long distances every day to the YEFE facilities in Sana'a and Taiz from outlying areas to attend the classes, which are offered in Arabic and English. Demand for the courses has been high and every enrollment session overbooks.

Pioneers Program

The innovation and strength of EFE's programs lie in YEFE's market and employer-driven model for youth employment. After seeing the effectiveness of the Workplace Success Program, local business leaders suggested that EFE expand its training operations to include courses in Business English and Information Technology (IT). With funding from local businesses and in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), YEFE launched the Pioneers Program in early 2009.

Pioneers is an integrated training program that combines 90 hours of IFC's Business Edge curriculum, 300 hours of English language training, 70 hours of IT training and 60 hours of Workplace Success.
